Is your POS (Point of Sale) Display making the impact that you want in the market? This is a question Marketing & Procurement teams should be asking themselves. In a saturated modern market where every brand has a display or some form of promotion going on does your Brand get noticed? Is the POS material that you have activated standing out from the crowd? Are you getting a good ROI?

Introduction

When products are displayed in a traditional market on shelf, every brand competes for valuable shelf space. Getting your brand to stand out in a retail environment is not always easy. This is where well designed and disruptive POS Material helps, and the FSU (free standing unit) comes into the picture. Consumers like to find their products quickly and easily. An innovative FSU will help your brand get better visibility.

Benefits of the FSU

Having an attractive FSU in the market allows you to place your brand in prominent locations and away from the crowded shelves. A good FSU allows your brand to be unique by using a combination off; great design, aesthetics, brand communication and Copy. This in turn is likely to increase your Sales with impulse buying. A good design ensures better product visibility and customer engagement even in the most crowded retail spaces.

Importance of Design

”When Industries are competing at equal price and functionality, design is the only differential that matters”

-Mark Dziersk, Industrial Designers Society of America

In a modern market where shelf space is saturated, most brands will opt for some form of promotional material or a display (FSU). A Basic box shape display takes away from brand appeal and does not get you the return on your investment. Your FSU design needs to be  unique, impactful, disruptive, communicative and interactive. It should be a well thought out design that relates and aligns with the brand, almost like an extension of the former. The form, colours, shape and visual appeal should be attractive, coupled with high-quality brand visuals and good Copy aligned with the campaign.

Sustainability of your FSU

How sustainable is your FSU? Is it durable? Can it be re-used for another activation later in the year? Can it be easily re-branded for a new campaign or even for a new brand? Is it Modular?By using Sustainable materials such as Mild Steel your FSU can give you more bang for your buck. This also in turn allows you to have a modular display that is flexible in terms of being able to flat pack and ship, having height adjustable trays, interchangeable graphics. The benefits of having Sustainable POSM is a topic by itself that we will get into later.

Commonly overlooked costs

Some of the other considerations that commonly overlooked are the cost of transportation, activation costs, storage, reuse and Eco Friendly FSU’s. If you have a non modular FSU that has to be packed fully assembled you are going to have higher transportation costs. It is better practice to have flat packed FSU’s that can be packed even two to a carton and save on the logistics as well as storage before/after your activation. Another commonly overlooked cost when investing in POSM is the cost of the activation. An impractical design is going to require a specialized team to have your POS Display activated. Insist on a practical design that can be activated in-store by your own teams. The same applies for the re-use and storage of the FSU.

Considerations for your Brand

Be Eco-friendly and have a low Carbon Footprint. By using sustainable recyclable materials such as Mild Steel, you are able to lower the carbon footprint of your brand. FSU’s that passed its shelf life can be recycled rather than sent to land fills like MDF.  A responsible material choice is even something that can be displayed on the FSU itself to increase your brand image with the consumers.
